Understanding price caps
What is a price cap?
A price cap is the maximum fuel price your station can set for the day.
All of your Victorian outlets must report their price cap by 2pm the day before we advertise it as the fuel price of the day.
What is the cut off time to submit price caps?
Price caps for all fuel types must be submitted to Service Victoria between 8.30am and 2pm the day before. Price caps can’t be changed after 2pm, but can be changed after 8.30am the next day.
When do tomorrow’s price caps go live on Servo Saver?
Tomorrow’s price cap will go live by 4pm the day before.
If you didn’t update tomorrow’s price cap, today’s price cap will be rolled over.
Can I increase or decrease the price cap?
You can change tomorrow’s price cap until 2pm the day before. After 2pm, the maximum price is locked and you can only decrease the price until the reset at 6am the next day.
Am I required to start each day at the cap price?
No. You can start the day with a scheduled ‘6am price’ that can be lower than your maximum cap price.
What is the scheduled 6am price?
From 2.30pm to 6am, you can also submit a scheduled 6am price. This must be lower than the price cap you already submitted for that day.
You can update this as many times as required between 2.30pm and 6am.
At 6am, this scheduled price will go live on Servo Saver.
If you don't submit a scheduled price, yesterday’s price cap will become the 6am price.
What happens if a fuel type is unavailable on a day?
In your business account, you can mark a particular fuel type as ‘unavailable’ for the day. No price will display against this fuel type.
To remove a fuel type permanently, read our guide ‘Manage your fuel outlets and price reporting’.
What if a make a mistake with tomorrow’s price cap?
If you make a mistake, you can fix it before the 2pm deadline. After 2pm, the price cap is locked and can only be decreased, not increased.
What happens if I don't submit a price cap?
If you don’t submit tomorrow’s price cap by 2pm, the system will automatically use the previous day's prices.
If I change a fuel price on the day how quickly do I have to report it?
If you make additional reductions to a fuel price at any time, you must report it within 30 minutes of making the change. This will ensure your fuel prices on Servo Saver are accurate and can be trusted.
What do I do if some station information changes?
For station information changes, such as closing hours, update these as soon as possible to ensure Servo Saver information is accurate.
For fuel price changes, you’re required update these within 30 minutes of the change.
How do I add or pause, remove my station from the portal?
