Information about the role and functions of the eSafety Commissioner

The eSafety Commissioner is the Australian government's independent online safety regulator. The functions of the eSafety Commissioner include:

  • promoting online safety for Australians; and
  • administering a complaints system for cyber‑bullying material targeted at an Australian child; and
  • administering a complaints system for cyber‑abuse material targeted at an Australian adult; and
  • administering a complaints and objections system for non‑consensual sharing of intimate images; and
  • administering the online content scheme; and
  • coordinating activities of Commonwealth Departments, authorities and agencies relating to online safety for Australians; and
  • performing various functions relating to social media minimum age provisions
