You get demerit points for committing driving offences anywhere in Australia.

Everyone starts with zero points and the number of points you get depends on the type of driving offence.

If you get too many demerit points, then you can lose your licence.

What happens if I commit a demerit point driving offence?

You’ll get the following if you commit a demerit point driving offence in Australia:

  • A Traffic Infringement Notice with the associated fine from the agency who issued the infringement.
  • A record of the offence against your name.
  • The number of demerit points associated with the offence.
How can I contest a Traffic Infringement Notice?

Can I request a report using this service if I have an overseas licence?

No. You can’t use an overseas licence to request a report using this service. Call VicRoads instead on 13 11 71.
