Frequently Asked Questions

Yes. When you use your licence, Service Victoria gets your info from the Victorian Licensing Registry and sends it straight to your phone.

People who need to check your licence will do a visual check or scan a unique QR code that shows them real-time information. This means it would be very hard for anyone to forge a digital driver licence.

Because your details go straight to your phone, there’s nothing on our servers to put your info at risk.

People affected by family violence can contact the Department of Transport and Planning's Vulnerable Services Team at:

Phone: 1300 031 292

Email: assistance@transport.vic.gov.au

They can help you protect access to your driver licence information.

To add a digital driver licence to your Service Victoria wallet, you need to use your current address as shown on your licence. The Vulnerable Services Team can help you update your address if you need to.

Right now, there’s no way for you to share a copy of your digital licence. The business will need to copy or scan your physical licence. Businesses shouldn’t hold onto copies of your details unless they really need to. Keeping copies of this information is a fraud risk.

We don’t recommend that anyone shares screen shots of digital licences.

As we cannot wholly trust what is displayed on the holders' digital driver licence screen, the most secure way to verify someone's digital driver licence is their QR code.

It is the only way to securely verify the driver licence information is valid and current.

The QR code is securely encrypted and is highly fraud resistant. The QR code verification happens on the verifiers device and does not re-direct to a website.

The verifier scans the holder's QR code and if the information is valid and current, the verifier will receive a 'green tick' and a 'Licence verified' message'. The same applies for the QR codes relating to 'Identity' and 'Age'.

he QR code securely stores the customer data for these three groupings of customer information. However, their Service Victoria app or MyVicroads app will not store your details for them to view later.

Some businesses like bars or clubs might use their own scanners to check your licence. By law, these venues must keep records of their patrons. For up to 28 days. The info they record can include your photo, name, and other personal details from your licence.

You should only share your details with businesses and organisations you trust.

You can always contact us if you still need help, or our virtual assistant Vicky is available 24/7.
