You can apply online via the Service Victoria website or the Service Victoria mobile app. You’ll need to create an account or sign into your account to submit your application.
Download the app on the Apple App store or Google Play.
If you have a personal vehicle registered in your name, you can apply for a rebate between 1 June and 31 July 2026 (depending on eligibility).
Yes, you’ll need to sign in or create a Service Victoria account to submit your application securely.
You can apply for a rebate from 1 June 2026, but when you receive it will depend on when you paid your registration for the 2025-2026 financial year.
If your registration is due in June, you can still apply now but will receive any eligible rebates from July.
This is to ensure the VicRoads registration and licensing system is up to date with your info and payment amount.
Right now, rebates are available for personal vehicles under 4.5 tonnes. This includes:
- cars
- wagons (4WD)
- station wagons
- motorcycles
- utes
- vans
- light trucks.
Eligible vehicles with personalised plates can also apply.
Rebates are not available for:
- fleet vehicles and vehicles registered to a private company
- heavy vehicles (including heavy commercial buses, mobile plant and prime movers)
- vessels (like boats and personal watercraft)
- club permit vehicles
- heavy and light trailers including caravans
- plant and machinery vehicles
- vehicles registered to eligible apprentices, as registration and TAC fees don’t apply.
No, you need to apply for your rebate using your own Service Victoria account. This is because you can only get up to 2 rebates in your name.
Remember that you can only apply for a rebate if a vehicle is in your name on the date you apply.
If you paid your registration for the 2025-2026 financial year but sold your car before 30 June 2026, you won’t be able to apply for a rebate. This is because the registration is now in someone else’s name.
If your car has been written off, you can still apply for a rebate given that the registration was in your name when you paid your 2025-2026 rego.
If you paid your registration between 1 July 2025 and 30 June 2026, you’ll be eligible to apply for a rebate from 1 June 2026 as long as the registration is still in your name.
If your registration is due in June, you can still apply from 1 June but will receive any eligible rebates from July.
If you paid your registration after 30 June 2026, you won’t be able to apply for a rebate as it is for the 2025-2026 financial year only.
We’ll ask you for your registration number, full name, Victorian driver licence number or VicRoads customer number, and bank details so we can send you the rebate if you are eligible.
After you apply for your rebate, we’ll email you to let you know we got your application. You’ll also get an email with the outcome of your application.
When you apply, you will need to provide your Australian bank details. This is how we’ll make your payment, if eligible.
Most payments are processed within 30 days of lodging your claim, with payments made directly into your bank account.
If you've paid your registration after this rebate program started, your payment may take longer.
You can apply for a maximum of 2 rebates in your name.
You can choose which vehicle you want to claim a rebate for, as long as it’s eligible.
Yes, you can still apply if you pay your registration in 3, 6 or 12-month instalments. The rebate will be calculated based on the full annual registration amount.
If you’ve paid different registration rates throughout the year because you had concessions or a short-term rego, your rebate payment will be based on an annualised calculation of your most recent payment.
For example, if your most recent payment was at a concession rate, the 20% rebate will be calculated according to this rate.
Yes, you can still apply if you don’t have a permanent address. We ask for your vehicle registration number and licence number or VicRoads customer number, but not your address.
Yes – the status of your licence doesn’t affect your eligibility for this rebate. We'll check your eligibility by looking at your vehicle type and registration number.
If you have a valid Victorian vehicle registration, valid Victorian driver licence and your vehicle is garaged at a Victorian address, you can still apply for a rebate even if you’re currently living interstate.
